Are “I Made $1M in 9 Months” Marketing Programs Really Worth It?

You’ve probably seen the ads: “I made $1M in 9 months, and you can too!” The promises are enticing, and the allure of a done-for-you system that can replicate this success is hard to resist. I have personally purchased many of these programs over the years for research purposes, and I want to share my insights with you.

The Allure of Quick Success

The core message behind these programs is straightforward: if I can do it, so can you. They claim to offer a complete system—everything you need to replicate their success. This includes the perfect offer, funnels, emails, calls, and even advertising strategies. On paper, it sounds like a dream come true. But let’s dig a bit deeper.

The Reality Check

First and foremost, yes, these programs can work. However, they often work under very specific conditions:

A Massive Following: Most of these success stories have one thing in common—a massive following (even though they tell you they started with no-following, but rarely tell you the $s spent on paid ads) . They can tap into a large audience that is already engaged and ready to buy. If you don’t have this, the results will likely be very different.
Hefty Advertising Budgets: Paid ads on social media are not cheap. To see significant results, you need to invest heavily in advertising. Without this, reaching a broad audience and driving traffic to your offers can be challenging.
Time and Effort: Developing the perfect offer, creating effective funnels, writing compelling emails, and making calls requires a considerable amount of time and effort. These elements need to be unique to your business, and getting them right is far from a simple task.
Constant Optimization: Marketing isn’t a set-it-and-forget-it endeavour. Continuous testing and optimization are crucial to success. This means monitoring your campaigns, tweaking your strategies, and constantly adjusting to improve performance.

The Hard Truth

There is no simple answer or one-size-fits-all solution in marketing. Achieving success requires hard work, dedication, and often, a significant financial investment. The idea that you can purchase a program and magically replicate someone else’s success without considering these factors is misleading. Other factors that made their success -- first to market, they did it 10 years ago, when these programs were not a dime-a-dozen in availability that they are today -- and it took them this long to put the program together for you to use - why? Because their wildly successful program is no longer working for them either... so why not capitalize on what they created for their success initially? Those that did, no longer can, so they teach!

Given the nature of my business 'marketing' I am a prime target for even more of these types of ads than you - every marketer has a system that is going to 2x, 4x, 10x my revenue if I just follow their program - heck they'll even do it for me. I actually get a kick out of sitting through their presentations - just so I can determine who's system they are actually using --- there are only a few truly unique systems. When you watch enough of these, you can instantly tell which marketing guru they trained under.. Amazing! Oddly enough the programs do work, but usually the process is a lot longer and probably more money than you counted on to get that first sale!

A Better Approach

Instead of investing in a one-size-fits-all program, consider working with a marketing company that tailors its approach to your specific needs and goals. I believe your marketing partner needs to understand you, your customers, your business, your limitations and your budget to work within your means to develop personalized strategies that drive real results. We take the time to understand your business, your audience, and your unique challenges and help you understand how to target that audience and get your message to resonate.

The Basics Still Matter

Nothing replaces the basic principles of marketing. With or without advanced technology, a business must know its target audience, the problems it solves, and how to communicate effectively. These foundational elements are crucial for any successful marketing strategy. So yes, sometimes myself and my team take you back to basics to help you identify and understand your ideal customer, then craft messages that resonate and drive action.  Recently, I pulled out some of my older marketing books from almost forgotten marketing gurus -- yet, when I read their books, their core message boils down to a few key points:

  • Do your research
  • Know your customer
  • Know their pain points
  • Solve their problem
  • Have a reasonable price
  • Great customer service
  • Word of mouth referrals
  • The rest looks after itself!

Amazing! The tech doesn't matter if you know the above... it just makes it easier to get your message out.

Funny -- I'm old enough to remember some of the systems 'Act', the original 'Maximizer', one even refers to the phone book yellow pages and using a rolodex - yet his core message is the same!

The Collaborative Advantage

By working together with your marketing partner you can create a marketing plan that aligns with your goals and leverages your strengths. This collaborative approach ensures that every dollar spent is an investment in your success, rather than a gamble on a generic system. Combining traditional marketing wisdom with the latest digital tools to develop a comprehensive strategy tailored to your business is a much better formula for success than buying into someone else's success story.  Create your own!

While the promise of quick and easy success is tempting, the reality is that effective marketing requires time, effort, and investment. Don’t be swayed by flashy promises. Instead, focus on building a solid foundation with a partner who understands your business and is committed to helping you achieve your goals.
