Young photographers enrolled in the Digital Photography course at Niagara College are seeking support from local businesses.
Since the fall of 2017 I have had the pleasure of working with some aspiring young photographers from Niagara College's Digital Photography program. All I can say is - there's some great talent there. I can hardly wait until they graduate to see the new businesses forming, the creativity and new careers started.
So, here's where they need your support.
Every year at the end of the school term, there is a photo competition open to first and second year students. A book is put together highlighting the students' work, an event held and prizes award to the photographers in various categories. They look to the local business community to support them by purchasing an ad in the book. The monies raised from the ad sales go toward the awards for the students and the printing of the book that is distributed to the students and attendees at the event.
Rather than me giving you all the details, below is the ask from Stephen Dominick, Professor, School of Media Studies Digital Photography Program Coordinator (many in Niagara are quite familiar with Stephen's work). Please contact Stephen directly if interested. His contact details can be found below.
Advertising Opportunity - 'inception 8' 2018
The Photography Program at Niagara College is an intensive two-year Diploma Program designed to help train the student's artistic eye, master digital imaging technologies, develop an individual style and create a cutting-edge portfolio. A strong hands-on approach is emphasized to help define specific career-relevant skills training in portrait, commercial, advertising, fine art and photojournalism. Practical entrepreneurial and business principles are studied to provide graduates with the knowledge and confidence to satisfy employers, or to establish their own studio and
deal with clients and other creative professionals.
In 2018 we are celebrating our seventh graduating class. Each year we produce a full-color, hardcover book to showcase the exceptional work of our graduates, which features a self-portrait on the front cover from a Year 2 advanced portrait assignment. Our Program has begun to capture the attention of industry professionals worldwide as the work of our students is now consistently winning in student photography competitions including first place at the Canadian national EMERGE Media Awards and multiple winners at the international Applied Arts Magazine Student Awards Competition.
We are constantly looking at ways to improve our Program which inevitably requires upgrading and acquiring new gear for our Teaching Studio which includes lenses, cameras, strobe lighting and grip equipment for both studio and on-location photography. To this end, we are introducing an advertising opportunity in our 'inception' book for vendors who would like to take advantage of a top quality, print-medium that reaches students and prospective students (since the book is used as a recruitment tool at college fairs throughout Canada, USA, the Caribbean and Europe). The book is also used as a gift to dignitaries visiting Niagara College, and was given to the US Ambassador to Canada last year during a formal tour of the college.
Half-pages and full-pages are available with pricing at $350. and $600. Please give this offer your consideration in support of a worthy cause. Thank you.
Yours truly,
Stephen Dominick
